Recognizing the powerful force women play in the creation and continuity of the Jewish community

If you want to know how central a role women play in the Torah scheme of Jewish life, you need look no further than the famous midrash about the giving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai. Based on a verse in the Torah, the midrash teaches that, in seeking a commitment from the Jewish People to become the People of the Covenant, G-d sent Moshe (Moses) to the women first. Only once they made the commitment for their part, did it make sense to G-d to approach the men. Without the unique contribution of Jewish women working together, the efforts of the men would be for naught.

Recognizing this important truth, in 2004 when Mrs. Cindy Landesman became available to create a women’s division for the Kollel, no one wasted any time going forward.

Since then, the scope of activities has expanded beyond anyone’s expectations. The First Annual Women’s Conference in  November 2005 drew over 150 women. The goal of the conference was to provide women with a day to focus on issues relating to all aspects of a women’s life. Topics covered a wide range of interests including health, nutrition, art, relationships and more.

There are numerous programs geared toward all different types of women of all ages and stages including single and married women, stay at home moms, working moms, retirees, teenagers. The programs are tailored to women of all affiliations.

Following are some of the programs done by the women’s division:

              One-on-one learning

There are currently more than two dozen women taking advantage of this opportunity the Kollel offers. The benefit of this type of learning is that it is geared solely toward the interests of those involved and can develop easily over time as the needs change. These one-on-one groups meet during the day and at night to conform to the schedule and convenience of the participants. This setting is where real growth and learning takes place as questions and issues are raised and dealt with in an individual manner.
